Acoustic Monitoring |
Binary Acoustic
Technology's acoustic monitoring products are modular and can be
configured to support a variety of acoustic monitoring
requirements.
This guide will lead you through both the basic system elements
that we offer and how to configure them to meet your specific
needs.
The first section in this guide discusses Binary Acoustic
Technologies basic system elements in order familiarize the
reader with our acoustic monitoring product line. The
second section in this guide discusses the most common
configurations that are used in monitoring applications.

System Elements |
The ultrasonic receivers
act as the combination of a high performance ultrasonic
microphone , signal conditioner, and digitizer. They
receive bat calls through the microphone element, digitize
the calls and then transfer them to a computer or a
recording unit over a high speed USB 2.0 interface.
They operate in real-time, sending a continuous data stream
to the computer which makes them ideal for either long
duration and short duration recording.
These receivers can be
operated using a laptop computer and
SPECT'R software or
they can be operated using the FR125-III field recorder.
Both of these options are outlined below.
FR125-III
Field Recorder
The FR125 is an
unattended field recording unit that works in conjunction
with a miniMIC or AR125 and AR180 ultrasonic receivers. It is
intended for long duration recording stations such as those
needed for metrology towers. The FR125 includes
operation timers and a remote file transfer capability that
provide unattended operation and capability to automatically
transfer log files and recordings back to a central file
storage site.
FR125-EXT
Field Recorder System
The FR125-EXT system is a complete field recording system
developed for extended duration monitoring projects. It is
intended for permanent and semi-permanent long duration recording stations such as those
needed for metrology towers. The FR125-EXT system includes
the base recording unit along with an ultrasonic microphone
and a microphone cable up to 250 feet in length.
iFR-IV
integrated
Field Recorder System
The iFR-IV is a
complete lightweight field recording system that is designed
for multiple night monitoring projects. The iFR-IV is
housed in a small weather proof Pelican case. It
includes a recorder, batteries and a battery charger.
The iFR-IV system is easy to setup and take down which makes
it suitable for "nomadic" monitoring projects in which the
system is serviced and moved every few days.
SPECT’R Analysis and
Recording Software
The SPECT'R software is used to operate an ultrasonic
receiver from a laptop or ultra-mobile computer. It is
essentially a hard-disk recorder that includes a built in
sonographic analyzer. SPECT'R supports either continuous or
snapshot recording. It includes a "call activated"
recording feature that creates snapshots only when bat calls
are detected. SPECT'R runs on Windows XP/Vista/7/8.
SCAN’R
Automated Call Analysis
Processor
SCAN'R is a post
collection processing tool. It automatically scans files
and file directories searching for recordings with bat calls.
It generates either SonoBat or Anabat compatible parameter
sets. It also runs on Windows XP/Vista/7/8.
